The time has come to upgrade the expression "changing colors like a chameleon." Now, not only chameleons, but even BMWs are changing colors. Luxury car manufacturer BMW has created a car that can change its color at the press of a button. This is the world's first color-changing car.
This color-changing car is called the BMW iX Flow. Currently, it offers limited color options, only black and white. In November 2022, TIME included this car in its annual list of best innovations. TIME includes innovations that impact the way people live, work, and think.
Introducing this car in 2022, BMW wrote, "When something created with technology starts to feel like magic. Why is it necessary for cars to always look the same? Imagine your car turning white in the heat of the afternoon and black in cold weather, just by pressing a button."
CEO of the Circle app, Tensu Yegen, tweeted a video of this car and wrote, "BMW can now change colors, good luck to the police."
How does this color-changing car work?
BMW's color-changing car uses E-Ink, which stands for electronic ink, to change its color. E-Ink consists of several microcapsules that contain negatively charged white pigments and positively charged black pigments. Inside the car, there is a switch that offers the option to make the color black or white. Depending on the selected option, the black or white color starts reflecting on the car's surface. These cars also provide assistance to the driver.
The idea behind this color-changing car for BMW is that a person can choose a car and its color according to their personality. If there is an option to change the color based on mood or if two people are driving the car, there can be an option to choose the color preferred by both individuals, thus enhancing the experience.
